Behind the Song

Under Sarasota Lights

July 31, 2026

Every town has an hour when it shows off. Sarasota's is right after nine.

The Ringling Bridge lights up white and blue over the bay, the marina starts doubling everything — boats, neon, stars — and the whole downtown hum shifts into an easier gear. I wrote "Sarasota Lights" trying to bottle that exact temperature. Marina reflections moving with the tide, open signs buzzing down the drive.

It's a love song where the town is the other person. I've noticed those are the ones locals message me about most — I think because if you're from here, you've had that drive across the bridge at night where the water's lit up and for a minute you can't believe you get to live in the postcard.
